Omitec has long become recognised as a pioneering international supplier of diagnostic equipment and services to the automotive industry. Omitec supplies both automotive manufacturers and the independent aftermarket.

The development of new products and the securing of additional OEM customers have driven the organic growth of the business. The company has maintained substantial investment programme, funding extensive research and development to generate innovative systems and associated intellectual property rights (IPR). These investments have averaged over 10% of revenues in recent years.

In addition, the company develops diagnostic software, provides service process consulting, and develops bespoke production test equipment for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Omitec is a fully integrated product manufacturing and design company accredited to ISO9001.

The company has been a leader and innovator for over 35 years. The business was first established as Trilec in 1970 and developed a range of specialist electronic test equipment, pioneering computer-based diagnostics of cars with the MicroCheck system for Rover Group in 1988. In 1988 Trilec was acquired by the small publicly quoted plc OMI International, and the company name changed to Omitec Instrumentation. Subsequently the company developed leading gas and smoke emissions analysis machines in the early 1990s. In 2000 Omitec Information Services Limited was established having been built from the publishing and diagnostic development team from BMW UK Operations. This team has been developed into a comprehensive OEM diagnostic and information management consultancy and development group, including specialist provision of permanent and contract engineering resources.

 In 2000 Omitec acquired Equiptech Limited, which had developed an expert system for cataloguing and indexing the repair processes for all makes of cars. Additionally, in 2001, Omitec acquired Mechtric Engineering Limited, which extended the group’s capabilities beyond the service bay and into the production line, where Mechtric was an established specialist in the development of bespoke production line automation and testing equipment. Mechtric now trades as Omitec Automation. In 2003, Omitec acquired Interro Systems, a California-based developer of specialist diagnostic tools with a world-leading digital automotive oscilloscope. Interro is now trading as Omitec Inc. In 2005 all UK operating subsidiary companies were consolidated into one group - Omitec Limited. In 2007 Omitec Limited welcomed Crypton Technology Limited and Autodiagnos in to the growing group. Together these acquisitions allowed Omitec to develop sophisticated integrated tools that not only diagnose faults, but also provide information to support the repair of those faults.

Omitec currently has 3 sites in the UK and company offices in: Munich- Germany; Paris- France; Detroit- USA; Lede- Belgium; and Shanghai- China.
